A Second Semester

Semester 2

Leadership & Business Program

Beyond Borders Semester 2 offers enthusiastic and community-minded Grade 12 students a unique experiential learning semester focused on leadership, business, career exploration, and real-world learning opportunities. Offering something different than the Semester 1 Beyond Borders program, students will participate in engaging activities designed to prepare them for post-secondary pathways, the workplace, and leadership roles within their communities.

The Program Emphasizes Hands-On Learning Through:

  • Workplace experiences and co-op placements

  • Business and industry tours

  • Leadership workshops and guest speakers

  • Networking opportunities with professionals

  • Fundraising initiatives and community involvement

  • Team-building activities and special events

Beyond Borders Semester 2

This semester is ideal for students interested in business, entrepreneurship, leadership, marketing, management, skilled trades, community leadership, and future career exploration. The program encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and develop skills that will support future success in both post-secondary education and the workplace.

All students in the program will automatically be enrolled in the SHSM.


The Semester 2 program does not include any overnight trips.

As a result, there are no additional program costs associated with Semester 2.

Courses Offered - Semester 2

Business Leadership (BOH4M) 

This course focuses on the development of leadership skills used in managing a successful business. Students analyze the role of a leader in business, with a focus on decision-making, management of group dynamics, workplace stress and conflict, employee motivation, and planning. Effective business communication skills, ethics, and social responsibility are also emphasized. Prerequisite: None.

International Business Fundamentals (BBB4M)

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. Students learn about the techniques and strategies associated with marketing, distribution, and managing international business effectively. The course prepares students for postsecondary programs in business, including international business, marketing, and management. Prerequisite: None.

Cooperative Education
(Grade 12 Open – COOP)

This course provides students with an opportunity to earn secondary school credits while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a workplace or community setting. Through a combination of classroom instruction and supervised work placement, students apply and refine the knowledge and skills acquired in related courses, explore career opportunities, develop workplace competencies, and make connections between school and the world of work. Students also focus on workplace health and safety, career planning, employability skills, and reflective learning.
