Travel Destination - Camp Tawingo

Situated on the beautiful Lake Vernon, in Huntsville, Ontario. Students will enjoy a wide range of leadership development activities, outdoor lectures and an incredible motivational speaker. During our free time we will participate in a range of team building games and hike the adventure trail to experience an incredible view. In the evenings students will enjoy bonfires, an outdoor movie classic, skit night and more. We will end our Camp Tawingo experience with the opening of the “Beyond Borders Amazing Race”.

Travel Destination - New York City

Our time in New York City will be a fast paced experience that students will never forget. We will kick off our adventure in Times Square as we learn about international marketing strategies. English lectures will take place in Central Park where events from their novel study were inspired. We will travel to the heart of business for lectures on Wall Street as we learn about world markets and economic events that have shaped the world we live in today.

Students will spend their free time enjoying NYC sites such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the World Trade Centre and more. Students will visit the NBC studio and then face their first “Apprentice Challenge” which will truly put their skills to the test. We will end our NYC experience with the second lag of the "Beyond Borders Amazing Race”.

Our time in Toronto will help reinforce many of our program goals and concepts as students will put their skills to the test in the real world. Students will complete a “Dragons' Den Challenge” in the financial district of Toronto. We will learn from a wide range of business leaders as we visit Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Dentons Law Firm, Conversion Marketing, the Boston Consulting Group and numerous business firms. In our free time we will enjoy shopping at the St. Lawrence Market and an unforgettable meal at the top of the CN Tower, a production at Second City and a Toronto Raptors Game. Our Toronto trip will end with the third lag of the “Beyond Borders Amazing Race”.

Hogwarts Challenges

Hogwarts Challenges are designed to be a fun and competitive way to increase student engagement through experiential learning competitions. At the start of the year students experience "The Sorting Hat Ceremony" and are divided into 4 "houses" (or teams); Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

Each competition has designated points for victory. At the end of the semester the group with the most points is awarded the "House Cup".

The Amazing Race

At the start of the semester each student will be provided with a race partner. With this partner they will face numerous challenges that the Amazing Race has to offer.

The Amazing Race challenges are designed to test and combine all the Beyond Borders classes. Each class teacher will be involved with a component of the race. The teacher will provide the team with a course challenge they must work through before receiving a clue to bring them to their next challenge.

Amazing Race lags include: Camp Tawingo, New York City, Toronto, Guelph. The winning times will be tracked at each lag of the race. An award will be presented for the winning team at the end of the semester.
